Fuel Prices Rise Starting From the 12th As Authorities Step In to Manage Petroleum Product Pricing

Starting on the 12th, fuel prices are set to increase, with the government implementing a regulatory adjustment mechanism for refined oil pricing. Following this intervention, domestic gasoline and diesel reference prices will see an actual rise of 260 yuan and 250 yuan per tonne, respectively.

According to an announcement made on the 11th, since the last adjustment to domestic refined oil prices on August 28th, the conflict between the US and Iran has escalated once more, causing international crude oil prices to climb sharply and persistently. Notably, crude prices in the Middle East have experienced another abnormal surge.

To mitigate the impact of rising global oil costs on the domestic market and to ensure economic stability and protect people's livelihoods, temporary control measures have been introduced for domestic refined oil prices, while still operating within the current pricing framework. Calculations based on the existing mechanism suggest that gasoline and diesel reference prices should have been raised by 435 yuan and 420 yuan per tonne on September 11th. However, following the application of the temporary controls, the actual increase has been moderated to 260 yuan and 250 yuan per tonne.

The authority will guide production and sales enterprises in the refined oil sector to fully commit to output and logistics efforts, guaranteeing a consistent market supply. Additionally, it will collaborate with relevant departments to bolster market oversight and supervision, rigorously cracking down on illegal activities such as non-compliance with national pricing policies, with the goal of preserving market order and safeguarding consumer interests.
