AR Navigation Feature Set to Launch Across Beijing's Eight Major Railway Stations

Travelers at major transport hubs often face the challenge of navigating large, complex indoor spaces, frequently losing their way or taking longer routes. In Beijing, this issue is set to be addressed through the deployment of augmented reality (AR) navigation technology.

On September 19th, a demonstration at Beijing West Railway Station showed a new option for passengers seeking directions. By opening the WeChat mini-program "到站北京" (Arriving in Beijing) without downloading a separate app, passengers can authorize their location, select a destination, and point their phone camera at the surroundings. Within seconds, virtual arrows appear on the screen, guiding them directly to their target location by following the on-screen indicators.

With Beijing West Railway Station serving as the pilot site, this indoor, real-time navigation service will be expanded to cover all eight major railway stations in the capital, including Beijing Railway Station, Beijing South Railway Station, Beijing Fengtai Railway Station, and Beijing Tongzhou Railway Station. The technology is also slated to be replicated at Beijing Capital International Airport and Daxing International Airport.
