Inner Mongolia Commissions 2GWh LFP Energy Storage Facility With 1.49 Billion Yuan Investment

Inner Mongolia has taken a significant step forward in its renewable energy infrastructure with the full-capacity commissioning of a new energy storage project in Dengkou County, Bayannur City. The project, which serves as the second sub-project of the city's 2025 special action plan for source-side independent storage, has been successfully connected to the grid and is now fully operational. The facility represents a total investment of approximately 1.489 billion yuan, underscoring the region's commitment to modernizing its power grid.

The newly operational storage station is located within the concentrated storage zone of Wenduermaodao Gacha, Shajintai Haomu, and boasts an impressive construction scale of 500MW/2000MWh. To adapt to the region's challenging environmental conditions, which include strong winds, sandstorms, and significant diurnal temperature variations, the project employs lithium iron phosphate liquid-cooled prefabricated cabin technology. The storage units are connected via a 35kV collector line that feeds into the 220kV booster station of the Taiaoxin Energy Storage Power Station. From there, the power is transmitted through a unified delivery line into the 500kV Xiangtai substation, with the grid connection works executed by Inner Mongolia Electric Power Grid.

A key feature of this project is its efficient use of existing infrastructure, as it fully shares the booster station and ancillary facilities that were already constructed for sub-project one. This strategic approach has not only significantly reduced construction investment but also enhanced the utilization efficiency of both land and grid resources. Once operating at full capacity, the project is capable of completing 1.5 charge and discharge cycles per day, generating an average daily discharge of approximately 2.3 million kWh. This output is sufficient to cover the daily electricity needs of around 290,000 households. On an annual basis, the facility is expected to deliver 840 million kWh of clean energy into the regional grid.

According to public records, the project's investor, Inner Mongolia Yerongsheng New Energy Technology Co., Ltd., was established in March 2025 with a registered capital of 10 million yuan. Located in Dengkou County, Bayannur City, the company's business scope encompasses energy storage technology services, solar and power generation technical services, photovoltaic equipment leasing, emerging energy technology research and development, battery sales, accumulator leasing, sales of new energy original equipment, generator sales, energy recovery system development, and the manufacturing of photovoltaic equipment and components. Its principal shareholder is Inner Mongolia Hangtong Energy Storage Technology Co., Ltd.

In related regional developments, two additional energy storage projects have recently broken ground in Bayannur City. The first, the Inner Mongolia Huijin Energy Storage Technology demonstration project located in Urad Front Banner, has a scale of 200MW/800MWh and carries a total investment of 636 million yuan. This facility, which occupies roughly 75 mu, will be equipped with 160 units of 5MWh energy storage containers alongside a booster station and office buildings. The second project, situated at the 500kV substation in Urad Front Banner, involves a 300MW/1200MWh storage capacity with an estimated investment of about 948 million yuan, spanning 135 mu. This undertaking includes the construction of a new 220kV booster station and related supporting facilities, with planned charge and discharge cycles of approximately 320 times per year.

The commissioning of these projects aligns with Bayannur City's broader strategy to leverage its abundant wind and solar resources. As of the end of June this year, the city has successfully established 53 wind farms and 70 photovoltaic power stations, bringing the total installed capacity of new energy to over 20 million kilowatts, which accounts for 88.7% of the city's total installed power capacity. Furthermore, the region's new energy generation has reached 18.2 billion kWh, representing 78% of the city's total electricity output.
