During the APEC Digital Week series of events on July 24, Hong Kong's Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, Sun Dong, shared his insights on Hong Kong's artificial intelligence development and the potential for cooperation between Chengdu and Hong Kong in an on-site interview.

Sun Dong believes Hong Kong is one of the most open cities in the country and must actively play its roles as a "super connector" and "super value adder" in future development.

"Computing power is inseparable from data," Sun stated when discussing how Hong Kong can integrate into the national integrated computing power network system. He emphasized that Hong Kong must do a good job of connecting, promoting efficient and convenient cross-border data flow under the premise of complying with national laws and regulations and controlling risks.

Furthermore, Sun highlighted the need to strengthen computing infrastructure. He noted that Hong Kong has already proactively built a series of infrastructure projects and must continue to strengthen this construction to provide safe and reliable digital infrastructure for the country's digital economy and data exports.

Sun Dong indicated that during Digital Week, he will visit the Chengdu High-tech Industrial Development Zone, high-tech enterprises, and universities and research institutes, and conduct in-depth exchanges with relevant departments to foster cooperation between Chengdu and Hong Kong.

In his view, Sichuan has a unique geographical location and abundant resources, while Hong Kong can leverage its advantages in international talent and finance to promote innovation, technology, capital, and talent flow, helping enterprises develop more flexibly and efficiently. He expressed great anticipation for the future of Chengdu-Hong Kong cooperation.
