The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has once again greenlit a commercial trial for private satellite IoT services. This latest approval was granted to Zhejiang Space-Time DaoYu Technology Co., Ltd., which will run a two-year commercial test, marking a significant step in expanding the satellite IoT sector to private enterprises.
During the trial period, Space-Time DaoYu is authorized to pilot satellite IoT services in accordance with regulations. Leveraging the "Geely Future Travel Constellation (Phase I)", the company will deliver IoT connectivity with broad coverage, low power consumption, and high reliability. These services will enable round-the-clock, intelligent data collection and remote interaction across sectors such as smart transportation, marine fisheries, and energy and water conservancy.
The MIIT had previously approved Beijing Guodan High-Tech Co., Ltd. to conduct satellite IoT commercial trials, making Space-Time DaoYu the second private firm to receive such approval. As China's satellite communications industry accelerates its commercialization drive, satellite IoT is poised to become a vital complement to broadband satellite internet.
Organizing these commercial trials is instrumental in fostering economies of scale within the satellite IoT sector. It also helps invigorate private enterprise and bolster the growth of the commercial space industry.
Building an integrated space-ground network architecture, satellite IoT operates as a low-rate data transmission method via satellite communication systems. It primarily supports uploading location data and small-scale sensor information, rather than conventional internet browsing services. The technology ensures global signal coverage, allowing sensors, vehicles, vessels, and devices in areas lacking terrestrial network signals to transmit data seamlessly.
Since the start of this year, the MIIT has successively approved commercial trials for satellite IoT services for two private companies: Beijing Guodan High-Tech and Zhejiang Space-Time DaoYu.
