A senior executive from a maritime logistics firm has pointed out that the newly opened shipping routes are significantly reducing the travel distance for cargo from the upper reaches of the Pearl River system.

Currently, the Port of Nanning operates two dedicated river-sea intermodal routes. One connects the port directly to Yangpu in Hainan, linking it with the Hainan Free Trade Port. The other route extends to Can Tho in Vietnam, facilitating trade with Southeast Asia.

These services primarily handle domestic and international trade cargo, including automotive parts, plywood, chemical products, and construction materials. By utilizing the Pinglu Canal, the shipping distance for regions such as Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan, and Chongqing is reduced by approximately 100 kilometers, offering a more efficient gateway to the ocean.
