China Now Boasts 28 Trillion-Yuan Cities

China is now home to 28 cities with a GDP exceeding one trillion yuan. On January 21, the press conference on Beijing's economic performance in 2025 was held, revealing the city's economic report card. Data from the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Statistics showed that in 2025, Beijing achieved a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of 5,207.34 billion yuan, representing a year-on-year growth of 5.4% calculated at constant prices. By industry, the primary industry achieved an added value of 10.92 billion yuan, a decrease of 0.7%; the secondary industry achieved an added value of 718.74 billion yuan, an increase of 3.5%; and the tertiary industry achieved an added value of 4,477.69 billion yuan, an increase of 5.8%. On January 20, the Wenzhou municipal government work report announced its results, revealing that Wenzhou's regional GDP surpassed the one trillion yuan mark in 2025, making it the third "trillion-yuan city" in Zhejiang province, following Hangzhou and Ningbo. As of now, the number of "trillion-yuan cities" in China has increased to 28.
