AIA Group (81299 HK) Releases 2025 Sustainability Report: 24% Emissions Cut, 622 Million Lives Reached

AIA Group Limited (stock code: 81299), the region’s largest pan-Asian life and health insurer, published its 2025 Sustainability Report outlining progress across health, investment, operations, people and governance.

Key operational metrics

• Scope 1 & 2 greenhouse-gas emissions fell 24% versus the 2019 baseline; a 46.2% reduction is targeted by 2030 and net-zero by 2050.

• Digitalisation accelerated: 99% of new policy submissions and 95% of buy-service-claims transactions were completed online, saving 1,892 tonnes of paper.

• Seventeen properties are now green certified/pre-certified and 23 buildings hold WELL health & safety ratings.

Health & community impact

• The AIA One Billion initiative has engaged 622 million people since launch, moving more than halfway toward the 2030 goal of one billion engagements.

• Total benefits and claims paid in 2025 topped USD 22 billion; 4.2 million customers now participate in AIA Vitality and China Wellness.

Investment performance and targets

• 100% of directly managed general-account assets are covered by AIA’s ESG Rating Scorecard.

• USD 7.60 billion is invested in ESG (green, social and sustainability) bonds; USD 1.30 billion is allocated to renewable-energy assets.

• Power-generation portfolio carbon intensity has been cut 45% from 2019, while direct real-estate intensity is down 33%.

• Over 300 investee companies engaged during the year; eight Climate Action 100+ company groups joined.

People & culture highlights

• Women hold 42.1% of senior leadership roles and 57.2% of the total workforce.

• Average training reached 33.3 hours per employee; more than 7,800 employees participated in the Me@AIA mental-resilience programme.

• AIA ranked in the 92nd percentile of Gallup’s global finance & insurance engagement benchmark and secured the Gallup Exceptional Workplace Award for the fourth consecutive year.

Governance and recognition

• Aside from the Group Chief Executive and President, all Board members are Independent Non-Executive Directors.

• Maintained MSCI ESG AA rating for the fourth year; ranked in the top quintile of Sustainalytics’ global insurance universe.

• AIA was again named among the “Most Honored” companies in Extel’s Asia-Pacific Executive Team rankings.

Strategic outlook

Management emphasised continued integration of sustainability into product design, asset allocation and operations, with the newly formed Investment ESG Sub-Committee and updated operating model expected to reinforce execution toward SBTi-validated climate goals.
