Kirill Dmitriev, the head of Russia's sovereign wealth fund, has proposed the construction of a subsea tunnel connecting Russia and Alaska via Elon Musk's Boring Company. The tunnel is to be named the "Putin-Trump Tunnel" and is seen as a "landmark project" that could signify a potential thaw in U.S.-Russia relations. This proposal comes after a recent phone conversation between Trump and Putin, with both leaders set to meet in Budapest, Hungary, soon.

Dmitriev's proposed project spans 70 miles and is expected to cost $65 billion using traditional technology. He claims that with the Boring Company's technology, the project could be completed within eight years for a budget of $8 billion. He believes this project could reshape global supply chain dynamics.

Notably, he has made several posts on the social media platform X regarding this project. He referenced declassified Soviet documents from the Kennedy era that discussed the concept of constructing a "World Peace Bridge" between Alaska and Russia, stating that "construction should begin immediately."

This large-scale infrastructure project may attract Trump's interest, but it will likely face strong opposition within the U.S., with new conservatives and Democrats expected to protest against it. The project also touches on sensitive issues related to energy geopolitics.
