Applied Materials (AMAT) shares surged 5.07% in pre-market trading on Wednesday, as investors positioned ahead of the company's highly anticipated fiscal third-quarter earnings report and responded to a wave of bullish analyst actions.

The semiconductor equipment giant is scheduled to report results after the market close on Thursday, with Wall Street expecting adjusted earnings per share of $3.36, representing approximately 35% year-over-year growth. Multiple institutions have recently raised their price targets on the stock, with Bernstein lifting its target to $675 from $525 while maintaining an Outperform rating, and HSBC and UBS setting targets in the $683 to $705 range. RBC Capital Markets expects a beat-and-raise quarter, citing NAND recovery, ICAPS stabilization, and value-based pricing as near-term tailwinds. Citi had also placed the stock on its 30-day positive catalyst watchlist, forecasting revenue and EPS to exceed consensus estimates.

The broader semiconductor sector also provided a tailwind, with chip and storage stocks broadly higher in pre-market action. Additionally, Jinglin Asset disclosed a new position in Applied Materials during the second quarter, allocating to the AI computing infrastructure supply chain, further bolstering sentiment around the name.
