"Baidu Name List" Farce Continues: 48 Out of 58 Names in Professional Title Public Notice Copied Directly

The ongoing farce involving the "hardest-working quintet" and Baidu Wenku's "10,000 Common Chinese Names List" has exposed widespread irregularities. Names like "Zhang Jiwei" and "Lin Guorui" from the list have been repeatedly copied and pasted—appearing as procurement review panel members and sweeping top prizes in calligraphy competitions—sparking public outcry.

The controversy continues to escalate. Netizens have discovered that beyond these five names, others from Baidu Wenku's database appear in official documents. For instance, a September 30, 2024, public notice titled "2024 Liaoning Province Non-Public Sector Senior Professional Title Evaluation Results" on the "Liaoning Provincial Sci-Tech Enterprise Knowledge Transformation Platform" listed 58 individuals, 48 of whom share names with entries in Baidu Wenku's list.

Similarly, a separate notice on the "Yingkou Sci-Tech Enterprise Knowledge Transformation Platform" on the same date, announcing intermediate engineering title approvals for 95 individuals, included 38 consecutive names—from "Yang Daxue" to "Chen Bowei"—that matched Baidu Wenku's list exactly in both name and order.

These platforms, described as sub-sections of the "National Sci-Tech Enterprise Knowledge Transformation Platform," claim guidance from the Ministry of Science and Technology's Evaluation Center, the National Industry-Academia Collaboration Alliance, and the National Technology Innovation Union. Their stated functions include intellectual property services, high-tech enterprise certification, and talent qualification assessments.
