Asian Market Rotation: Software and Platform Stocks Become Top AI Picks in US Bank Survey

A recent survey conducted by US banking analysts reveals a significant shift in investor sentiment across Asian markets, with software and platform equities rapidly climbing the ranks to become the most favored artificial intelligence investment choice. This dramatic turnaround is particularly notable given that only a month ago, these same stocks were languishing near the bottom of preference lists among institutional investors.

The strategic team, including analyst Kaspar Lam, detailed in a September 15 report that approximately one in four respondents now select this sector as their primary AI trading avenue for the next twelve months in Asia. This preference surpasses other major categories such as memory chips and data center infrastructure, marking a considerable surge from August's ranking where this sector sat in the lower echelons of investor choice, barely outperforming AI computing power segments. The strategist team emphasized that software and platforms currently present the most favorable risk-reward profile for AI investments, now eclipsing traditional power and energy related sectors.

This comprehensive survey, conducted between September 4 and 10, gathered insights from 87 professional participants who collectively oversee assets valued at an impressive $211 billion. The findings indicate a strategic evolution among investors, who appear to be pivoting their AI focus away from companies dedicated primarily to building and expanding computing infrastructure, shifting instead toward enterprises demonstrating tangible potential for AI-driven profit growth and commercial viability.

This investment rotation carries significant implications for specific market players, particularly benefiting AI-integrated software companies in India and undervalued Chinese platform enterprises and hyperscale cloud service providers. The timing coincides with growing calls from AI industry leaders advocating for a more measured pace of development amid safety concerns. Furthermore, the survey highlights that monetization strategies have become increasingly critical in investment decision-making processes, with 80 percent of respondents citing commercialization as a key factor strengthening their confidence in AI-related holdings, up notably from the 64 percent recorded in August's survey.
