South Korea's space agency announced on Tuesday that it will push forward with the localization of core components for a five-seat hybrid vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft, with a goal of producing four prototypes by 2032.

The Korea AeroSpace Administration (KASA) stated on Tuesday that it has held a hearing to gather opinions from industry, academia, and research institutions on the development of the aircraft, while also exploring additional demand from the public sector.

According to KASA, the aircraft is designed to carry five passengers, with a target range of over 200 kilometers, a payload capacity of at least 600 kilograms, and a flight duration exceeding 60 minutes. Unlike some VTOL aircraft that rely solely on battery power, the planned hybrid model will also be equipped with an engine, enabling it to carry heavier loads and achieve longer ranges.

KASA said it plans to submit the project to the Ministry of Science and ICT in November for designation as a state-funded research and development initiative.
