Data from the National Bureau of Statistics' Yunnan Survey Office reveals that in August 2026, Yunnan's Industrial Producer Price Index (PPI) fell 1.1% month-on-month, rose 11.3% year-on-year, and accumulated an increase of 8.3% for the January-August period. Meanwhile, the Purchasing Price Index (IPI) declined 1.4% month-on-month, increased 9.4% year-on-year, and accumulated a gain of 7.1% over the same eight-month stretch.

Looking at the month-on-month figures, the 1.1% drop in PPI marked a 1.5-percentage-point improvement from the previous month's pace of decline. Among the 32 major industrial sectors surveyed, 10 reported price increases, 5 held steady, and 17 saw decreases. In key industries, the petroleum, coal, and other fuel processing sector climbed 4.2%, while non-ferrous metal smelting and rolling rose 2.2%. On the downside, coal mining and washing fell 0.5%, automobile manufacturing dropped 0.6%, non-metallic mineral products declined 1.8%, computer, communication, and other electronic equipment manufacturing slipped 2.1%, ferrous metal smelting and rolling decreased 2.2%, and electricity, heat production, and supply tumbled 11.7%.

On a year-on-year basis, PPI advanced 11.3%, with the growth rate expanding by 0.6 percentage points compared to the previous month. Of the 32 surveyed industrial categories, 19 recorded price gains, 2 remained unchanged, and 11 experienced declines. Among major sectors, computer, communication, and other electronic equipment manufacturing surged 36.5%, though this was 0.8 percentage points lower than the prior month's reading. Non-ferrous metal mining and dressing jumped 30.9%, accelerating by 0.7 percentage points from last month. Non-ferrous metal smelting and rolling rose 25.5%, widening by 1.8 percentage points month-on-month. Chemical raw materials and chemical products manufacturing increased 12.6%, easing 0.4 percentage points from the prior period. Coal mining and washing gained 7.7%, expanding by 0.2 percentage points. Notably, ferrous metal smelting and rolling swung from a 2.0% increase last month to a 0.7% decline. Non-metallic mineral products fell 2.8%, with the drop 0.8 percentage points deeper than the previous month, while electricity, heat production, and supply declined 2.1%, a contraction that narrowed by 0.8 percentage points from the prior month.

Calculations indicate that within the 11.3% year-on-year PPI movement in August, the lagged impact of prior-year price changes contributed approximately 6.2 percentage points, while new price effects from this year accounted for around 4.8 percentage points.
