SpaceX Halting New Falcon 9 Launch Bookings as Shift to Starship Accelerates

According to sources familiar with the matter, SpaceX has started turning away satellite operators seeking exclusive launch services aboard its workhorse rocket, the Falcon 9, for missions scheduled after 2028. This move underscores Elon Musk’s deepening bet on the yet-to-be-matured Starship program.

One of the sources noted that Musk’s rocket, satellite, and artificial intelligence giant has also ceased production of certain non-reusable components for the Falcon series, such as the rocket's large upper stage.

SpaceX is no longer accepting future bookings for its Falcon 9 rideshare launch program, the sources said. That program allows multiple satellite operators to share a single rocket for orbital deployment.

The sources indicated that SpaceX's plans could still shift due to various factors, including potential new setbacks in Starship’s development. Some of the sources added that the company may continue to use the Falcon 9 for missions contracted by the U.S. Department of Defense and NASA in the future.
