In a recent internal address, JD.com founder Richard Liu detailed the company's "Nirvana Project," an initiative aimed at safeguarding the jobs of its vast frontline workforce amidst the rise of new technologies. Liu emphasized that JD.com must exhaust all avenues to preserve the livelihoods of its hundreds of thousands of employees, including its blue-collar workers, as the company navigates business model innovation and new ventures.

The core objective of the "Nirvana Project" is to protect the employment of countless blue-collar staff. In response to the technological wave, JD.com has established over 80 robotics bases nationwide. These facilities are designed to train blue-collar workers in new skills such as robot maintenance and upkeep, facilitating their transition into higher-skilled, higher-paid technical roles that are in greater demand.

Liu stated that JD.com will not lay off any frontline employees displaced by automation. The company is committed to minimizing the impact of new technologies on its blue-collar workers and their families. He expressed that while JD.com provides industry-leading compensation and benefits, the work remains arduous for the delivery personnel who brave all weather conditions.

Looking ahead, Liu articulated JD.com's vision to become the world's largest physical operations operator. He projected that even two decades from now, JD.com will remain the enterprise with the largest employee count in China.
