Eli Lilly shares surged 7.40% during intraday trading on Wednesday, as investors reacted to the pharmaceutical giant's blockbuster second-quarter earnings report that handily beat Wall Street expectations across all key metrics.

The rally was fueled by the company's Q2 results released before the opening bell, which showed adjusted earnings per share of $8.38, dramatically exceeding the consensus estimate of $6.01. Revenue jumped 48% year-over-year to $22.97 billion, surpassing analyst forecasts of approximately $20.7 billion. The standout performance was driven by surging demand for its GLP-1 weight-loss and diabetes drugs, with Mounjaro revenue nearly doubling to $9.94 billion and Zepbound climbing 46% to $4.93 billion. Together, these two drugs accounted for roughly 65% of Lilly's quarterly revenue.

Lilly also raised its full-year revenue guidance to a range of $85 billion to $87 billion, up from the previous outlook of $82 billion to $85 billion, reflecting continued confidence in the growth trajectory of its incretin portfolio. While the company slightly narrowed the upper end of its adjusted EPS guidance to $35.50-$36.50 due to acquisition-related charges, the overall outlook remains robust. An additional catalyst came from CVS Health's announcement of a partnership with Lilly to expand patient access to Zepbound and Foundayo through transparent pricing and same-day pharmacy pickup, further reinforcing the demand outlook for Lilly's GLP-1 franchise.
