On December 26, the National Bureau of Statistics released the 2025 cotton production announcement, revealing that the cotton output of Xinjiang, China's primary cotton-producing region, exceeded 60 million tons for the first time, reaching a total of 6.165 million tons, which accounts for 92.8% of the nation's total output.
The announcement shows that the sown area for cotton in Xinjiang was 38.875 million mu, with a yield (ginning turnout) of 158.6 kilograms per mu, both figures showing a slight increase compared to the previous year. The yield per mu in Xinjiang was 10 kilograms higher than the national average yield for cotton.
