According to informed sources, the Indian government is engaged in discussions with Iran, with the primary objective of ensuring the safe passage of six vessels carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) through the Strait of Hormuz. The sources, who requested anonymity due to the private nature of the talks, stated that the six ships collectively carry 270,000 tons of the cooking fuel. As the domestic LPG shortage in India intensifies, the government has prioritized the transit of these vessels over those carrying crude oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG). Approximately 90% of India's LPG imports originate from the Middle East. The effective blockage of the Strait of Hormuz has impacted restaurants, households, and petrochemical companies that use LPG as a feedstock for plastic production.
