Founder Wang Xingxing Discusses Debut of "Transformable Mecha": Capable of Building Robots from One to Over Ten Meters Tall, Receiving Purchase Inquiries on Launch Day

At the 2026 World Intelligent Industry Expo held in Tianjin today, Wang Xingxing, founder of Unitree Robotics, delivered a keynote speech at the opening ceremony. He addressed for the first time the rationale and considerations behind the company's recent global launch of the GD01, the world's first mass-produced manned transformable mecha.

"Many might wonder why we are developing a relatively large robot. The reason is quite straightforward," Wang Xingxing stated frankly. "We believe that if embodied AI technology achieves a genuine breakthrough in the coming years, enabling robots to perform tasks in homes and factories, then since we can build robots over one meter tall, we certainly have the capability to create robots seven meters or even over ten meters tall." He explained that the underlying principles of robotics are consistent. By developing such large robots, the company aims not only to create mobile products but also to apply them in transportation, land reclamation in mountainous and forested areas, disaster relief, and large-scale agriculture.

Earlier this month, Unitree Robotics unveiled its first mass-produced manned transformable mecha, the GD01. This robot can stand upright and punch through brick walls like a "Transformer," instantly transform into a "steel quadruped" to traverse rugged terrain, and even allow users to sit inside and operate it as a "pilot," fulfilling a "mecha dream."

According to Wang Xingxing, the GD01 has garnered significant interest from both domestic and international audiences following its launch, with purchase inquiries received on the very first day of its announcement.
