Good news for the Shenzhen-Zhongshan cross-city rail connection, as the project moves closer to reality.

Recently, the China Government Procurement Network published a tender result announcement for the pre-research of the Shenzhen-Nansha-Zhongshan Intercity Railway planning and construction scheme. The announcement revealed that the pre-research project for the Shenzhen-Nansha-Zhongshan Intercity Railway planning and construction scheme was awarded to China Railway Fifth Survey and Design Institute Group Co., Ltd. and Shenzhen National High-tech Industry Innovation Center for 1.681 million yuan.

This marks substantial progress for the cross-Pearl River Estuary rail line that will connect Shenzhen, Nansha, and Zhongshan.

According to the tender announcement for the "Shenzhen-Nansha-Zhongshan Intercity Railway Planning and Construction Scheme Pre-research (A)" published by the Shenzhen Public Resources Trading Center on August 29, the project had a tender budget of 1.757 million yuan. The focus is on researching line and station planning, system format, and investment and financing schemes, laying the foundation for inclusion in the Greater Bay Area intercity railway construction plan.

It is understood that the Shenzhen-Nansha-Zhongshan Intercity is planned to connect westward with the Nanzhongzhu Intercity at Zhongshan Cuiheng New Area and eastward with the Shenda Intercity at Shenzhen Airport area, achieving rail connectivity between the east and west banks of the Pearl River Estuary.

In April this year, the Shenzhen Development and Reform Commission published the "Intention for Pre-research of Shenzhen-Nansha-Zhongshan Intercity Railway Planning and Construction Scheme," stating that currently, the Shenda Intercity Shenzhen section and the Nanzhongzhu Intercity Zhongshan section have both commenced construction and reserved conditions for Shenzhen-Nansha-Zhongshan Intercity access. However, the line has not yet been included in the "Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Intercity) Railway Construction Plan." To accelerate the inclusion of the Shenzhen-Nansha-Zhongshan Intercity in the plan, quickly stabilize the line corridor and station locations, and ensure interconnectivity with related lines, it is urgent to accelerate preliminary research on the Shenzhen-Nansha-Zhongshan Intercity Railway.

The successful tender for the Shenzhen-Nansha-Zhongshan Intercity Railway planning and construction scheme pre-research means that pre-research work on the line routes and stations will commence, bringing a breakthrough in the interconnectivity of the Greater Bay Area's "horizontal corridor."
