On September 23, Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) announced the signing of a cooperation memorandum with Guangzhou Carbon Emission Rights Exchange Co., Ltd. (Guangzhou Carbon Exchange), Shenzhen Green Exchange Co., Ltd. (Shenzhen Green Exchange), and Macao International Carbon Exchange Co., Ltd. (Macao International Carbon Exchange), aimed at jointly promoting the development of carbon markets and green finance ecosystems in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Under the cooperation memorandum, the four exchanges will explore collaborative opportunities in carbon markets and green finance, facilitate experience sharing and knowledge exchange to enhance the professional capabilities of relevant institutions and personnel in carbon market operations and green finance, and drive the deepening development of regional carbon markets.
Bonnie Chan, Group Chief Sustainability Officer of HKEX, expressed her delight in signing the cooperation memorandum with the three major carbon emission exchanges in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area: Guangzhou Carbon Exchange, Shenzhen Green Exchange, and Macao International Carbon Exchange. She emphasized the commitment to jointly explore new opportunities in green finance, build a dynamic regional carbon market, provide funding and solutions for enterprises to achieve net-zero emissions, and promote exchanges and cooperation between mandatory and voluntary carbon markets in mainland China and internationally.
As the launch of this cooperation, the four exchanges jointly hosted a seminar at the China Carbon Market Conference held in Shanghai today, focusing on exploring innovative development of carbon markets in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
