Bank of China Posts 8.41% Revenue Growth and Stable Asset Quality in 1H 2026

Bank of China reported operating income of RMB 357.11 billion for the first half of 2026, up 8.41% year-on-year, driven by a 10.20% rise in net interest income to RMB 236.73 billion and a 5.04% increase in non-interest income to RMB 120.38 billion.

Profit for the period reached RMB 132.03 billion, a 4.67% gain versus 1H 2025, with profit attributable to equity holders totaling RMB 123.59 billion, up 5.10%. Net interest margin edged higher by 1 bp to 1.27%, while return on average equity stood at 8.66% and return on average assets at 0.67%.

Total assets expanded 4.77% from end-2025 to RMB 40.19 trillion, supported by a 5.49% rise in gross loans and advances to RMB 24.74 trillion and an 8.51% uplift in financial investments to RMB 10.48 trillion. Customer deposits increased 2.46% to RMB 26.83 trillion.

Asset quality remained resilient: the non-performing loan ratio improved 1 bp to 1.22%, and the allowance coverage of NPLs inched up to 200.85%. Credit cost was unchanged at 0.58%. Capital adequacy stayed solid with a CET1 ratio of 12.04% and an overall capital adequacy ratio of 18.31%. The leverage ratio was 7.23%.

Management proposed an interim dividend of RMB 1.19 per 10 shares (before tax), following a 2025 final dividend of RMB 1.169 per 10 shares paid in July.

Strategically, the bank highlighted progress in “five major tasks”: technology finance, green finance, inclusive finance, pension finance and digital finance. Green loan balances grew 13.32% since end-2025 to RMB 5.62 trillion, while inclusive finance loans surpassed RMB 3.06 trillion.

International operations contributed USD 5.73 billion in pre-tax profit, with overseas loans rising 5.83% year-to-date to USD 469.27 billion.

The bank issued RMB 30.00 billion of undated capital bonds and RMB 100.00 billion of Tier 2 capital bonds during the period, redeeming RMB 50.00 billion of undated capital bonds.

Management reaffirmed focus on supporting China’s real economy, enhancing digital capabilities, and maintaining prudent risk controls for the remainder of 2026.
