Hong Kong's major stock indices recorded collective gains during the morning session.

At the midday break, the Hang Seng Index was up 1.34% at 25,227.06 points. The Hang Seng Tech Index advanced 0.79%, while the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index rose 1.32%.

Tech and Internet stocks saw broad-based strength, with Meituan shares surging over 5%. Lenovo Group gained more than 3%, and Baidu was up over 2%.

Gold stocks were mostly higher, with Zhumao Gold leading the pack with a jump of more than 7%. The rally came as gold prices briefly touched $4,150 per ounce, reaching a two-week high. Market analysts suggest that while tightening expectations have been priced in, allowing for a potential gradual climb in gold, geopolitical tensions driving oil prices higher remain a significant downside risk. Technical resistance is noted in the $4,197-$4,264 range, with a key medium-term resistance level near $4,500.

Lithium battery stocks were notably strong, with Ganfeng Lithium Group Co.,Ltd. soaring over 9%. The company recently issued a positive profit alert, forecasting first-half net profit attributable to shareholders in the range of 3.65 billion to 4.6 billion yuan. This represents a staggering year-on-year increase of 787% to 966%, compared to a net loss of 531 million yuan in the same period last year. Another major player, Tianqi Lithium, also projected a massive surge in first-half net profit, expecting it to reach between 2.85 billion and 4.25 billion yuan, a growth of over 3,200%.

Chinese brokerage stocks were active, with GF Securities Co., Ltd. rising more than 2%. The sector's operating conditions continue to show improvement. Preliminary statistics show that among 21 listed brokerages that have disclosed their first-half 2026 performance forecasts, 20 anticipate a year-on-year increase in net profit. Five of them are projected to report net profits exceeding 10 billion yuan. CITIC Securities expects to achieve a net profit of approximately 23.34 billion yuan, marking a near 70% increase and a record high for the period. Other major firms like Guotai Junan Securities and Huatai Securities also forecast robust profits in the tens of billions.
