Following progress in improving accessibility for foreign investors, index provider FTSE Russell will reclassify Vietnam from frontier market to secondary emerging market status for the first time.
According to a statement on FTSE Russell's website, Vietnam will be included in its secondary emerging market category on September 21, 2026, subject to an interim review in March 2026.
Vietnam was added to FTSE's watch list in September 2018 to evaluate the possibility of reclassification from frontier market status. The country has been working to align its market with global standards.
The benchmark Vietnam Stock Exchange index has gained 33% year-to-date.
