Visa announced that its AI-powered shopping tool has successfully facilitated hundreds of consumer transactions since its pilot launch following a product showcase in April. The credit card giant is actively developing tools to automate shopping transactions for consumers. A growing number of e-commerce and fintech companies are leveraging AI to revolutionize how consumers shop and search for products and services.

Visa revealed on Thursday that its AI tool has assisted consumers in completing hundreds of transactions as part of a pilot program initiated after an April product launch. The payment network is racing against fintech competitors to develop tools that enable consumers to delegate specific transactions to AI agents. Rubail Birwadker, Head of Growth Products & Partnerships at Visa, stated in an interview, "This year, we will see real-world, scaled applications of this technology, and consumers will gradually adapt to various AI agent use cases."

AI is transforming the e-commerce shopping experience by altering how people browse and purchase products. In April, Mastercard announced it was testing a feature called "Agent Payments," allowing AI agents to handle online purchases for consumers. That same month, Amazon launched a test for its "Order for Me" service, while PayPal partnered with Perplexity to develop AI-powered shopping tools. A Visa survey in early December found that nearly half of U.S. consumers use AI tools while shopping.

Birwadker noted that while current data remains limited, these tools can simplify routine, repetitive purchases—such as buying concert tickets. Visa plans to launch pilot programs in Asian and European markets next year and is collaborating with over 20 partners to develop AI agent tools.
