Discrepancy in Taobao App Loading Text: A Debate Over "稍后" vs. "稍候" as Analyzed by AI Models

An online discussion has emerged regarding the phrasing used in certain loading pages within the Taobao App. Users on social media have pointed out that the prompt "请稍后,拼命加载中…" (Please wait a moment, loading frantically…) may contain a character usage error.

Some netizens argue that "稍后" (shāo hòu) emphasizes a delay in time and is typically used in conjunction with a subsequent action. In the context of prompting a user to wait, they suggest that "稍候" (shāo hòu), which carries the meaning of "to wait for a short while," would be more appropriate for the scenario. However, other users maintain that the original expression is not incorrect.

In response to this controversy, inquiries were made to several leading large language models, yielding distinctly different answers.

Doubao stated that the phrase "请稍后,拼命加载中…" represents a common instance of mixed usage among the general public and is not considered standard in strict written norms. It recommended the standardized phrasing: "请稍候."

Qianwen offered a different perspective, indicating that within Chinese language norms and practical context, the expression is not considered a misuse. It explained that in this copy, "请稍后" is immediately followed by the phrase "拼命加载中," which describes an action state. Therefore, the entire sentence can be coherently understood as "Please operate a little later, (the system) is loading frantically…" While using "请稍候" might appear more precise and direct in a context prompting user waiting, Qianwen concluded that using "稍后" is grammatically and logically valid when combined with the subsequent action description.

DeepSeek took a middle ground, acknowledging that from the perspective of strict modern Chinese language standards, there is indeed an issue with insufficient character accuracy, and it suggested changing "稍后" to "稍候." However, it noted that considering established conventions in internet contexts, this copy would not cause substantial ambiguity in public understanding, classifying it as an "informal but acceptable" instance of mixed usage.
