CSPC Pharma Secures NMPA Approval to Launch Clinical Trials for First Recombinant Herpes Zoster Vaccine

CSPC Pharmaceutical Group Limited (CSPC Pharma) has received clearance from China’s National Medical Products Administration to initiate clinical trials for its recombinant herpes zoster vaccine, SYS6052.

The vaccine candidate combines varicella-zoster virus glycoprotein E (gE) with a proprietary nanoadjuvant system developed in-house. Pre-clinical studies indicated favorable safety and efficacy profiles, with the optimized antigen–adjuvant pairing designed to elicit robust humoral and cellular immune responses.

SYS6052 targets the prevention of herpes zoster and related complications in adults aged 50 years and above. This marks CSPC Pharma’s first recombinant protein vaccine to reach the clinical-trial stage, representing a significant milestone in the group’s strategic expansion into preventive vaccines.
