At the 2026 China Chief Economists Forum Annual Meeting held in Shanghai on January 10-11, with the theme "Mid-Game Strategy: Building on the Past to Construct a Powerful Nation," Shenwan Hongyuan's Chief Economist Zhao Wei delivered a speech.
Zhao Wei pointed out that DeepSeek's launch has significantly impacted everyone's investment research thinking habits, particularly since its emergence in early 2025. Before DeepSeek appeared, people were too accustomed to using a macro perspective when contemplating China's economic issues and capital markets. After DeepSeek's emergence, it has pulled the angle of investment thinking back to a micro-dominated approach.
"Micro-dominance is a perspective for seeking opportunities. If there is no change, I can ignore it and not invest, focusing only on investing where changes occur," Zhao Wei stated.
He indicated that before DeepSeek's appearance, when discussing China's economy and capital markets, people habitually focused on topics such as China's population issues, real estate problems, and leverage concerns—a series of macro topics. After DeepSeek's emergence, people began to consider whether other fields besides artificial intelligence have also reached their "DeepSeek moment." The entire perspective of investment thinking has been pulled back to a micro-dominated viewpoint.
