Early Gains Fade Quickly: Japan and South Korea Stock Markets Reverse After Opening Surge

Stock markets in Japan and South Korea opened higher on August 7th but quickly reversed course.

South Korea's KOSPI index initially jumped nearly 2%, though that gain has since narrowed to 0.63%. In contrast, Japan's Nikkei 225 index has turned negative, currently trading down 0.71%.

Major technology stocks in the region also showed weakness. SK hynix shares slumped into negative territory within the first 20 minutes of trading. Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics saw its early gains fade, with its stock price increase now narrowing to 1.52%.
