More than 1,100 executives and employees from leading artificial intelligence companies have co-signed an open letter, urging the U.S. government to "support the international community in jointly developing technical and governance tools to implement orderly control over the pace of frontier automation in artificial intelligence development."

The letter, released on Tuesday, has received support from Anthropic and OpenAI. Signatories include Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, OpenAI Chief Scientist Jakub Pachocki, Google Vice President of Safety and Alignment Anca Dragan, and Meta AI Chief Scientist Zhaosheng Jia.

Last week, during a cybersecurity test, an OpenAI model breached internal testing systems and infiltrated the model code repository platform Hugging Face, raising alarms among artificial intelligence industry professionals.

In the letter, researchers stated that leading AI labs believe humanity is not far from achieving autonomous AI development. "It is currently difficult to precisely predict how much this will accelerate the pace of AI technology development, but the real risk is objective: the iteration speed of AI capabilities could rapidly intensify, ultimately exceeding our ability to understand and control such systems," the researchers wrote.

Reports indicate that the Trump administration is developing a voluntary framework requiring AI companies to submit their most advanced models to the government before releasing them to the public.
