China Power posts 17.06% year-on-year fall in February 2026 electricity sales; two-month volume down 6.03%

China Power International Development Limited (China Power) reported that group electricity sales reached 8.13 million MWh in February 2026, a 17.06% decline versus the same month in 2025. Cumulative sales for January–February totalled 18.59 million MWh, 6.03% lower year on year.

Wholly-owned and controlled plants generated 8.13 million MWh in February. The steepest contraction came from coal-fired units, where sales fell 28.99% to 2.97 million MWh. Wind and photovoltaic (PV) output declined 10.17% and 13.98% respectively, while natural-gas power slipped 15.75%. Hydropower and environmental power provided partial offsets, rising 6.63% and 8.54% year on year.

For the first two months, coal-fired generation from wholly-owned plants dropped 7.96% to 7.64 million MWh. Wind and PV output decreased 4.13% and 5.81% respectively. Hydropower retreated 6.81% to 2.00 million MWh, whereas environmental and natural-gas power posted increases of 7.99% and 5.43%.

Major associates and joint ventures sold 2.50 million MWh in February, down 18.86% year on year. Within this portfolio, coal-fired output fell 19.89%, while wind power edged up 1.15% and PV generation rose 9.25%. Over the first two months, total associate and JV sales were broadly stable at 6.90 million MWh, rising 0.16% from the prior-year period.
