Thinking Machines Lab (TML), an artificial intelligence research firm founded by former OpenAI Chief Technology Officer Mira Murati, has secured $2 billion in seed-stage financing. The funding round was spearheaded by Andreessen Horowitz, with notable participation from NVIDIA, Advanced Micro Devices, Accel, ServiceNow, Cisco, and Jane Street.

Established in February this year, TML currently operates without market-ready products or revenue streams. Murati recently indicated via social media platforms that the company's inaugural offering will debut within the coming months.

This landmark seed investment ranks among the largest initial funding rounds in venture capital history, elevating TML's valuation from approximately $10 billion to $12 billion. The startup has recruited over 20 elite researchers and engineers, predominantly drawn from industry pioneers like OpenAI and Anthropic. Key personnel include OpenAI co-founder John Schulman, former OpenAI researchers Barret Zoph and Luke Metz, and Peking University alumna Weng Li.

Sources familiar with Murati's strategy reveal that TML's core innovation connects AI models to enterprise-specific key performance indicators (KPIs), targeting direct enhancements in client revenue or profitability. Investors have dubbed this tailored approach "RL for businesses" (Reinforcement Learning for commercial applications), positioning it as a precision solution for corporate optimization.
