An array of engaging corn-themed activities, including field picking, fresh corn tasting, and corn handicraft making, are currently underway in Jiuxian Town, Yanqing District, Beijing. On August 16th, the 2026 Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Fresh Corn Industry Development Conference and the 12th Beijing Fresh Corn Festival's Yanqing sub-venue event kicked off in Jiuxian Town. The event invited industry experts and citizen representatives to taste premium fresh corn on-site, simultaneously launching a two-month fresh corn tourism experience season, offering the public a deep immersion into Yanqing's distinctive agricultural charm.
Themed "Yanqing's Good Scenery, Jiuxian's Fresh Corn Fragrance," the event integrated diverse segments such as corn variety evaluation, industry exchange discussions, production-sales matchmaking signings, investment project promotions, agricultural and cultural study tours, and specialty tourism experiences. This approach aims to promote tourism through agriculture and support agriculture via tourism, comprehensively empowering rural industrial revitalization.
The selection of superior germplasm lays a solid foundation for industrial upgrading, and precisely adapting corn varieties to local soil and climate conditions was a core highlight of the event. The event gathered premium corn germplasm resources from across the country, showcasing 142 newly developed fresh corn varieties, including Nongkenuo 336, Jinzinuo 519, and Jingkenuo 521. These encompassed three main categories: sweet corn, waxy corn, and sweet-waxy corn, featuring a complete range and excellent quality. To ensure a fair and impartial evaluation process tailored to local growing conditions, the event innovatively adopted a two-way evaluation model combining "expert review and citizen tasting." A judging panel, composed of three industry professional judges and three citizen representatives, conducted comprehensive assessments on indicators such as plant growth, disease resistance, taste, flavor, and nutritional quality. This process ultimately identified five premium varieties suitable for Yanqing's conditions, providing scientific support for standardized fresh corn cultivation and quality upgrading across the town.
The event emphasized practical outcomes, securing several production-sales cooperation and industrial upgrading projects. At the venue, two local cultural tourism and catering enterprises, Beijing Furun Ziyou Zizai Residential Accommodation Co., Ltd. and Fengshange Catering Company, successfully established long-term direct procurement partnerships with Beijing Zhongshun Planting Professional Cooperative. This collaboration built a stable production-sales system for "direct supply from the field to the dining table," effectively solving farmers' sales challenges, smoothing the channel for quality agricultural products to leave the village and enter the city, and helping farmers stabilize production and increase income.
It is reported that Jiuxian Town has concurrently launched the Fresh Corn Tourism Experience Season, which will run until the end of September. The town is opening two special experience sites: the Gengjiaying Corn Planting Base and the Gucheng Village Longqing Market. These sites will offer the public diverse agricultural experience activities, including field corn picking, fresh corn tasting, and specialty corn cuisine, allowing citizens to step into the fields, get close to farm life, and experience Yanqing's unique agricultural tourism scenery.
