Fastenal's stock plummeted 5.06% during intraday trading on Tuesday, following the release of its second-quarter earnings report before the market open.

The industrial distributor reported earnings per share of $0.33, matching analyst consensus estimates, while revenue of $2.39 billion slightly exceeded expectations of $2.34 billion. However, investors focused on concerns about operating profit margins, which were flat year-over-year and slightly below estimates, as higher fuel prices increased transportation costs and the company's pricing increases did not fully cover these expenses. Additionally, the contribution from product pricing to net sales weakened, narrowing from approximately 350 basis points in the first quarter to about 290 basis points in the second quarter.

With the stock having risen about 17% year-to-date and trading at a high valuation prior to the report, the inline results triggered a sell-the-news reaction. Broader concerns about tariff pressures on Fastenal's small business customers also contributed to the negative sentiment.
