Front-month oil futures on the New York Mercantile Exchange plunge 5.69%, settling at $75.77 per barrel

The September-delivery front-month crude oil futures contract on the New York Mercantile Exchange dropped $4.57 per barrel today, a decline of 5.69%, closing at $75.77.

This marks the largest single-day dollar and percentage loss since Monday, July 27, 2026. It represents the second consecutive trading day of declines, with cumulative losses of $8.90 per barrel, or 10.51%, over the past two sessions, the largest two-day dollar and percentage drop since Tuesday, July 28, 2026.

The contract has fallen in six of the last eight trading days, recording the lowest settlement price since Friday, July 10, 2026. It is now 32.92% below the 52-week high of $112.95 set on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, and 37.09% above the 52-week low of $55.27 from Tuesday, December 16, 2025.

Compared to 52 weeks ago, the price is up 16.28%. From the 2026 settlement high of $112.95 on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, it has fallen 32.92%, while from the 2026 settlement low of $55.99 on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, it has risen 35.33%. The contract is 47.85% below the all-time high of $145.29, recorded on Thursday, July 3, 2008. Year-to-date, the price has gained $18.35, or 31.96%.

All prices are based on the settlement price of the current front-month contract.
