ASML Q4 Order Value Exceeds Expectations as Chipmakers Boost Equipment Purchases to Meet AI Demand

The world's largest supplier of computer chip manufacturing equipment, ASML, announced on Wednesday that its order value surpassed expectations, driven by expanded investment in production capacity for AI chips, leading to a significant increase in new orders.

The industry's most-watched metric—fourth-quarter order bookings—reached 13.2 billion euros (equivalent to $15.8 billion), a substantial increase from 5.4 billion euros in the previous quarter; data from research firm Visible Alpha indicated that analysts had previously expected orders of 6.32 billion euros.

ASML Chief Executive Officer Christophe Fouquet stated in a release, "In recent months, we have seen a marked improvement in sentiment among our key customers regarding the mid-term outlook, primarily fueled by growing confidence in the sustainability of AI-related demand."

This better-than-expected order value coincides with several of ASML's chip manufacturing clients raising their investment plans—a surge in demand for AI logic chips and memory chips from cloud computing giants like Microsoft, Amazon, and Google, owned by Alphabet, is prompting chipmakers to adjust their capital expenditure strategies.

The Dutch company also raised its financial outlook for 2026; data from London Stock Exchange Group shows the company now anticipates full-year sales between 34 billion and 39 billion euros, whereas analysts had previously forecast 35 billion euros. ASML had earlier projected that 2026 sales would be flat or decline compared to the previous year; the company's sales for 2025 were 32.7 billion euros.

Fouque added, "We expect 2026 to be a year of renewed growth for ASML."

Analysts had already anticipated that the Dutch giant would benefit from strengthening demand from leading clients such as TSMC and Samsung, as a global supply crunch for memory chips and AI accelerator chips prompts chip manufacturers to increase capital expenditures and expand production capacity for AI-related semiconductors.
