On September 21, under the guidance of the China National Intellectual Property Administration, the Guiyang Intellectual Property Protection Center, in collaboration with the Kunming Intellectual Property Protection Center, successfully completed the first remote cross-regional joint hearing for a patent invalidation case in Guizhou Province.
This milestone marks the first remote handling of patent invalidation cases in Guizhou, laying a solid foundation for extending intellectual property hearing services to the grassroots level and enhancing overall efficiency.
During the hearing, a collegiate panel from the Reexamination and Invalidation Department of the China National Intellectual Property Administration presided over the proceedings remotely, jointly reviewing three related patent invalidation cases under the same patent holder.
The entire hearing was conducted through a high-definition video system, with the petitioner participating from the Kunming sub-venue and the patent holder joining from the Guiyang sub-venue. All procedural steps, including evidence presentation, cross-examination, and statement submissions, were completed in a standardized manner.
The whole hearing process was rigorous and well-organized, with stable audio and video transmission, effectively safeguarding the legal rights and interests of all parties involved.
The cross-regional remote joint hearing model breaks down geographical barriers, enabling the "cross-province handling" of intellectual property rights confirmation services. Innovation entities within the province can now access national-level patent hearing services without leaving their home province.
This approach not only significantly reduces the time and financial costs for enterprises and institutions but also shortens case processing cycles and improves the efficiency of resolving patent invalidation disputes, further optimizing Guizhou's intellectual property business environment.
Alongside the hearing, over twenty enterprises, universities, research institutes, and patent agency representatives were invited to observe and learn from the process. Participants gained a comprehensive understanding of the procedures and standards for patent invalidation case hearings and highly praised the new service model that brings hearing resources to the grassroots level and supports cross-regional collaboration.
Looking ahead, the Guiyang Intellectual Property Protection Center will continue to refine its remote hearing support systems, expand the application scenarios for remote hearings, deepen cross-regional intellectual property cooperation mechanisms, and steadily improve public service capabilities in intellectual property, all in support of the high-quality development of Guizhou's intellectual property sector.
