US August CPI Up 3.4% YoY, In Line With Expectations; US Stock Index Futures Extend Gains

U.S. Unadjusted CPI was 3.4% YoY in August, matching forecasts and unchanged from July.

U.S. not seasonally adjusted CPI rose 0.4% MoM in August, the biggest monthly increase since June and in line with expectations (prior +0.1%).

US seasonally adjusted core CPI rose 0.3% MoM in August, the largest monthly increase since May and above the 0.2% consensus (July 0.2%).

The not-seasonally-adjusted core CPI slowed to 2.4% YoY in August, matching expectations and down from 2.5% — the third consecutive monthly decline and the weakest since April 2021.

U.S. short-term interest rate futures fell after inf data, with markets raising odds of a September Fed rate hike.

US 10-year Treasury yield rose to 4.957%, its highest since Oct. 23, 2023, nearing the 5% mark.

Markets fully price in two Fed rate hikes before year-end.

After the CPI release, spot gold fell below $4,300/oz for the first time since Sept. 2.

US stock index futures extend gains, with Nasdaq 100 futures up nearly 0.9%.
