European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde has indicated she does not rule out the possibility of leaving her current role early to enter French politics.

When asked in an interview if this was an option should uncertainties subside, she replied, "It's a possibility. I think the European voice needs to be heard in the French presidential candidate debates."

During the interview, Lagarde reiterated her previous remarks, stating, "Given that we are in turbulent times again, I think the captain of the ECB ship should stay on board."

Lagarde has repeatedly been linked with national politics, despite previously describing the French presidency as a "terrible job."

Her term as ECB President is set to end in October 2027. She told the publication Les Echos that it is "certainly possible" she will have frank discussions with some French candidates in the coming months.

She said, "If this debate ends up reflecting a more narrow view of France's place in Europe, then I believe it is necessary to explain clearly why that would be a painful path for our country and our fellow citizens."
