Choice Hotels International (CHH) saw its stock price plummet 6.77% during intraday trading on Thursday. The sharp decline followed the company's release of its first-quarter 2026 financial results.

The hotel franchisor reported adjusted earnings of $1.07 per diluted share for Q1 2026, which fell significantly short of the analyst consensus estimate of $1.32. This represents an 18.94% miss and a 20.15% decrease from the $1.34 per share earned in the same period last year. More notably, the company's net income dropped 54.4% year-over-year to $20.3 million.

While the company's quarterly revenue of $340.6 million exceeded analyst expectations and showed a 2.3% increase from the prior year, investors focused on the substantial earnings shortfall and dramatic net income decline. The company maintained its full-year 2026 guidance, but the weak Q1 performance appears to have driven the stock's downward movement.
