Chinese AI Chip Startup Suiyuan Technology's STAR Market IPO Registration Takes Effect

The registration for the initial public offering of Shanghai Suiyuan Technology Co., Ltd. on the STAR Market has officially taken effect, as indicated by an update on the Shanghai Stock Exchange website on July 9. With CITIC Securities acting as its sponsor, the chip company, which progressed from application acceptance to registration approval in under six months, is now poised to make its debut on the public market.

This development signifies that all four startups dubbed the "Four Domestic GPU Dragons"—Moore Threads, MetaX, Biren Technology, and Suiyuan Technology—are on the verge of entering a new phase of capitalization.

In terms of its business focus, Suiyuan Technology is dedicated to the research and development of cloud-based AI chips and intelligent computing clusters, aiming to provide the foundational computing infrastructure for general artificial intelligence. Unlike many of its peers utilizing GPGPU architecture, the company has opted for a fully self-developed DSA (Domain-Specific Architecture) approach and has launched its "Yusuan" software platform.

This differentiated technological path has, to some extent, allowed it to sidestep direct competition within mainstream ecosystems, but it also entails extremely high upfront R&D costs and significant barriers to ecosystem development.

Financial data disclosed in its prospectus reveals that Suiyuan Technology remains in a high-investment, high-loss commercialization phase. From 2023 to 2025, the company's operating revenue showed consistent growth, reaching 3.01 billion yuan, 7.22 billion yuan, and 9.90 billion yuan, respectively. However, net losses attributable to the parent company's shareholders for the same periods were substantial, at 16.65 billion yuan, 15.10 billion yuan, and 11.64 billion yuan, accumulating to over 43 billion yuan in losses over the three years.

Primary Driver of Losses

The core driver behind these losses is the company's massive research and development expenditure. During the reporting period, its R&D investments amounted to 12.29 billion yuan, 13.12 billion yuan, and 11.35 billion yuan, respectively. The ratio of R&D spending to operating revenue far exceeded 100% for each of these three years.

Key Business Risks

Beyond the persistent pressure from losses, a significant risk factor in Suiyuan Technology's business fundamentals is its heavy reliance on a single major client. Tencent is not only the company's largest shareholder, holding an aggregate stake of 20.26%, but also its primary customer. Data indicates that sales to Tencent constituted a substantial 83.79% of Suiyuan Technology's total revenue in 2025.

Financial Health Indicators

Additionally, the company faces tangible challenges in its cash flow and asset positions. From 2023 to 2025, the net cash flow generated from operating activities at Suiyuan Technology remained consistently negative. As of the end of 2025, the company's inventory balance had reached 8.63 billion yuan, a figure approaching its total annual revenue for that year. Concurrently, the provision ratio for accounts receivable bad debt climbed to 24.76%. These financial metrics suggest that, despite growth in reported revenue, the company is under considerable pressure regarding its collection capabilities and capital turnover.

IPO Proceeds and Future Challenges

It is reported that Suiyuan Technology aims to raise 6 billion yuan through this IPO, with funds primarily allocated to the R&D and industrialization projects for its fifth and sixth-generation AI chips.

For Suiyuan Technology, securing a listing on the STAR Market addresses its immediate funding needs. However, in the increasingly competitive landscape of computing power chips, the company faces a long-term imperative post-IPO: it must find ways to gradually reduce its dependence on financial support from a single related party, improve its cash flow, and demonstrate to the market the self-sustaining viability of its business model.
