Stock Track | UVXY Surges 7.27% Pre-Market as Market Volatility Spikes Amid Escalating Trade Tensions

The ProShares Ultra VIX Short-Term Futures ETF (UVXY) soared 7.27% in pre-market trading on Friday, reflecting a significant spike in market volatility and growing investor concerns. This surge in UVXY, which tracks short-term VIX futures, comes amid a turbulent week in the stock market triggered by escalating trade tensions and renewed tariff threats.

Market analysts point to a sharp drop in the S&P 500 index earlier in the week, which generated a new McMillan volatility band (MVB) sell signal. The CBOE Volatility Index (VIX) spiked to 22.44 during this period before settling at 19.03. This volatility spike, coupled with the VIX closing above its 200-day moving average for two consecutive days, has fueled demand for volatility-linked products like UVXY.

Investors are closely watching key support levels in the S&P 500, particularly the 6,500 to 6,550 range. A breach below these levels could potentially trigger a more bearish scenario, further benefiting volatility-tracking ETFs like UVXY. As market participants navigate through this period of uncertainty, UVXY's pre-market performance serves as a barometer for short-term market anxiety and increased hedging activity.
