BIDU-SW's stock surged 5.09% during intraday trading on Friday, propelled by two significant catalysts related to the company's autonomous driving expansion and Hong Kong listing status.

The primary driver was news that Baidu's Apollo Go autonomous ride-hailing platform, in partnership with Lyft's FREENOW mobility platform, has commenced public road testing of its sixth-generation RT6 self-driving vehicles in London's Brent area. This marks the first time Chinese autonomous vehicles have conducted real-world testing on UK roads, with plans to open the service to public passengers in 2027. The move into the right-hand-drive market, which covers over 70 countries and more than 2 billion people globally, signals a major international expansion opportunity for Baidu's self-driving technology.

Additionally, Baidu's application to convert its Hong Kong secondary listing to a dual primary listing has been acknowledged by the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, with a special general meeting scheduled for August 26 to approve related mandates. Market expectations suggest that the company could be eligible for inclusion in the Stock Connect scheme following the conversion, potentially broadening its investor base by allowing mainland Chinese investors easier access to the stock.
