Short sellers are rapidly increasing their bearish positions in SpaceX, with the total of shares sold short now nearing one-third of the company's publicly available float, as its stock price continues to trade below its initial public offering level.

According to data from S3 Partners, approximately 185 million shares of SpaceX are currently sold short, representing about 29% of the company's freely tradable shares, with the total value of these short bets reaching around $25 billion. Just three weeks ago, this short position was estimated at roughly 40 million shares, or between 5% to 7% of the float.

S3's head of research, Matthew Unterman, stated in a media interview: "Since the IPO, we have seen sustained demand from short sellers to build speculative positions."
