Samsung Electronics' union submitted a letter to Group Chairman Lee Jae-yong on Tuesday, demanding greater transparency in the company's bonus system.

On the same day, union representatives presented a document to Samsung Group's de facto leader, requesting the introduction of a more transparent bonus evaluation system and the abolition of the current Economic Value Added (EVA)-based framework.

The union stated: "Recently, SK Hynix decided to allocate 10% of its annual operating profit for bonuses, while Samsung Electronics continues to use the EVA method, which lacks transparency."

The previous day, SK Hynix reached a tentative wage agreement with its union to distribute 10% of annual operating profits as dividends and eliminated the 1,000% basic salary cap on employee bonuses.

Samsung Electronics' union commented: "Under the current system, bonuses can be zero even when operating profits are high, and there are still caps in place."

The union added: "While it may be too late to restore workers' trust, the company should at least demonstrate a willingness to change."
