The Ministry of Transport has officially launched the first batch of typical application scenarios under the "AI + Transportation" initiative. Announced at a specialized press conference on August 20, the program introduces three categories of scenarios—application promotion, innovation demonstration, and key technology breakthroughs—with a focus on frontier developments in artificial intelligence and embodied intelligence. Construction guidelines for these scenarios will be released in phases, and the first batch of 41 projects has been formally initiated, emphasizing public welfare, industrial attributes, and clear implementation pathways.

Meanwhile, the National Science and Technology Ethics Committee's Medical Ethics Sub-Committee has released the "Ethical Guidelines for AI Medical Imaging Research." Designed to foster responsible innovation and healthy growth in the field, the guidelines serve as a reference for research institutions and individual scientists working on AI-assisted medical imaging technologies.

Regional Developments

Beijing concluded its five-day World Robot Conference 2026 on August 23 at the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area. The event unveiled 44 new technologies and solutions, drew 557,000 in-person attendees, and invited over 10,000 international visitors. Bringing together global industry, academia, and research, the conference provided a platform for showcasing achievements, exchanging ideas, presenting products, and public education. It highlighted the robust momentum of humanoid robotics and embodied intelligence, offering a blueprint for future industry growth and driving innovation across the global robotics landscape.

Jiangsu Province hosted the finals of the 2026 China "AI +" Innovation and Entrepreneurship Challenge in Changzhou alongside a theme of "Wisdom Gathering at Dragon City: AI in Changzhou." It marked the first time the national-level AI competition finals landed in the city, with 30 outstanding tech teams from over 20 provinces competing. The event showcased frontier achievements in applying AI to the real economy. During the event, Party Secretary Li Baiping met with Dai Qionghai, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and president of the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence, while Mayor Zhou Wei attended and presented awards to first-prize winners.

Zhejiang Province is accelerating industrial incubation by refining its innovation ecosystem. At the Zhejiang-Tsinghua Institute of Flexible Electronics Technology in Jiaxing, the focus has shifted dramatically over the past five years. What began with mature applications in curved screens and flexible patches for ECG and body temperature monitoring has evolved into the institute's new centerpiece: China's first multimodal sensing and embodied intelligence data collection and training facility. Currently, robot model training relies largely on video and motion trajectory data, leaving many humanoid robots with a "sensing blind spot"—the lack of tactile feedback. Picking up a stone, a grape, or an egg requires different gripping force and angles, and a single gripping force cannot handle diverse real-world tasks. Moving from "able to move" to "able to work" requires a sense of weight and touch in the physical world. Flexible electronics technology addresses this gap by using human-machine interaction to eliminate the blind spot for humanoid robots.

Fujian Province announced three major AI industry initiatives at an innovation and exchange event in Fuzhou on August 21. These include the provincial Intelligent Agent Innovation Consortium Plan, the AI Crowdsourced Testing Campaign, and the "Model-Future" AI Ecosystem Partnership Program. Collectively, these measures form a comprehensive support framework spanning technology deployment, quality verification, and industrial ecosystem development, injecting strong momentum into the use of AI for advancing new industrialization.

From August 24 to 25, a group of 100 teenagers from Chengdu participated in a special AI + XR science and technology study tour organized by the Chenghua District Science and Technology Association. Titled "Science Popularization Sparks – Youth Building Dreams: AI Super Team, Machine Body x Digital Soul," the event took place at Sichuan Wotong Technology Group's two flagship facilities—the "Yuanmeng Symbiosis: AI + XR Virtual-Real Interaction Pilot Platform" and the "Yuanmeng Fantasy Realm: XR Large-Space Immersive Experience Pavilion." The tour offered young participants an immersive introduction to cutting-edge applications in artificial intelligence and extended reality technologies.
