Xiaomi 17 Ultra Drops 2K Screen, Adopts Super Pixel Tech from Pro Max Model

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra will not feature a 2K resolution screen, according to leaks from tech blogger Smart Pikachu. Instead, it will retain the same Super Pixel display technology used in the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. This innovative Super Pixel technology employs a unique RGB subpixel arrangement, distinct from conventional OLED screens. By independently arranging red, green, and blue subpixels, it resolves the long-standing trade-off between high ppi and low yield rates in OLED production, eliminating "pixel sharing" issues and ensuring precise light emission from each subpixel.

Unlike traditional OLED panels that rely on borrowing adjacent subpixels, the Super Pixel screen integrates dedicated red, green, and blue subpixels for every pixel. While the resolution may not match 2K on paper, the total subpixel count reaches 9.38 million, delivering comparable visual clarity.

Additionally, the display incorporates a domestically developed red luminescent material with an industry-leading efficiency of 82.1 cd/A, enhancing uniformity in brightness and color. Xiaomi Group President Lu Weibing previously highlighted that the Super Pixel technology achieves "2K-level display quality with power consumption even lower than 1.5K screens," marking a breakthrough in display innovation.

Notably, the Super Pixel technology was co-developed by Xiaomi and domestic supply chain partners, representing a significant leap for China's OLED industry and positioning it at the global forefront of screen technology. The Xiaomi 17 Ultra, bearing the model number 2512BPNDAC, has already received regulatory certification, suggesting an earlier-than-expected launch.
