Optical Communication Stocks Extend Gains as Google Conference Nears and Global Fiber Price Surge Continues

Optical communication stocks continued their recent upward trend. At the time of writing, TIME INTERCON (01729) rose 8.83% to HK$19.48. YOFC (06869) increased by 4.98% to HK$236. CIG (06166) gained 1.97% to HK$82.85, while FIT HON TENG (06088) was up 1.11% to HK$8.17.

The upcoming Google Cloud Next '26 conference, scheduled for April 22-24 in Las Vegas, Nevada, is a key market focus. The event will center on enterprise AI, cloud innovation, and agent-based AI. According to an open-source securities research report, the conference may unveil a new-generation TPU architecture, reveal practical applications of memory pooling and Optical Circuit Switch (OCS) technology, and detail the rollout schedule for the new architecture. This conference is viewed as a potential starting point for a new technological direction from Alphabet, which could further expand the demand for OCS solutions.

Data from the UK Commodities Research Institute indicates that global optical fiber and cable demand is projected to grow by 4.1% year-on-year in 2025, with demand for data center fiber and cable surging 75.9% year-on-year. Global fiber demand is forecasted to reach 880 million core kilometers by 2027.

On the pricing front, the spot price for Chinese G652.D bare fiber reached 83.40 yuan per core kilometer in March 2026, marking a cumulative increase of over 400% since May 2025. Prices for similar products in the European market also rose 136% month-on-month from January and 159% year-on-year. The trend of rising fiber optic prices has now spread globally, with the supply-demand gap expected to widen to 15% during the 2026-2027 period.
