1. Market Overview

The Hang Seng Index opened firmer, adding 0.46% to 25,634.22, while the China Enterprises Index edged up 0.34% to 8,500.51. The Hang Seng Tech Index rose a gentler 0.18% to 4,602.30, suggesting a cautiously positive risk tone after the opening whistle. Gains were broad-based but moderate, indicating a wait-and-see mood ahead of key global data later this week.

Early buying interest centred on select technology, consumer and resources counters, whereas electric-vehicle names showed sharp dispersion. Property developers also clawed higher after recent weakness. Overall, the market opened with a constructive bias but pockets of underperformance in semiconductors and certain high-beta EV makers capped headline advances.

5. Opening Summary

The Hang Seng Index started Tuesday on the front foot, rising 0.46% to 25,634 as bargain-hunting in selected blue chips offset lingering macro caution. The HSCEI added 0.34% and the Tech sub-index inched 0.18% higher, holding above the 4,600 handle. Early flows suggest investors remain selective after recent volatility, with defensives and high-quality growth names finding support.

Large-cap tech showed a gentle rebound led by Alibaba (+2.04%) following Monday’s softness, while Xiaomi (+1.80%) and Baidu (+1.11%) also provided a lift. Tencent traded flat, indicating a pause after its recent outperformance. EV makers were polarized: Leapmotor climbed 2.57%, yet XPeng plunged 8.18% amid profit-taking and lingering concerns about price-war margins.

Among eye-catching single-stock moves, battery-materials newcomer CNGR surged 6.65% to top the gainers list, while semiconductor names GigaDevice (-3.14%) and ASMPT (-3.04%) weighed on sentiment in the chip complex. The leveraged CSOP SK Hynix product skidded over 10%, amplifying weakness in memory-chip peers after overnight declines in global semis.

Property developer Longfor’s 2.34% pop helped steady the battered real-estate space, and miners such as Mongolian Mining (+3.85%) benefited from firm commodity prices. No major Hong Kong IPOs debuted this morning, but traders remain watchful for filings as liquidity conditions improve heading into September.
